Profile

Dr Eric Wee is a Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist at Nobel Gastroenterology Centre(Mount Elizabeth Novena) with more than 20 years of clinical experience as a doctor.

He obtained his bachelor’s degrees and master’s degree in internal medicine from the National University of Singapore (NUS). Subsequently, he was conferred a member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK). After obtaining his Gastroenterology accreditation, Dr Wee embarked on a fellowship in advanced endoscopy at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology and Mayo Clinic (USA). 

Dr Wee specialises in digestive and bowel problems such as gastric pain, acid reflux, bloating and irritable bowel syndrome, as well as pancreatic and liver diseases (viral hepatitis, fatty liver and cirrhosis).

 

He performs gastroscopies, colonoscopies, and advanced endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP for bile duct stones and strictures), endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspiration and core biopsies, capsule endoscopy and small bowel enteroscopy.

Dr Wee is accredited to perform the fibroscan, a non-invasive modality that evaluates the liver for early fibrosis and cirrhosis.

Background 


Dr Wee has held senior appointments such as the Head of the Division of Gastroenterology at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Chairman of the Nutrition workgroup and Associate Program Director of the NHG Gastroenterology Residency Program.

His experience as a Gastroenterologist in Singapore includes performing over 10,000 endoscopic procedures and more than 2,000 advanced procedures including ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. Dr Wee has received several awards including Expat Living Readers’ Choice Awards (Gastroenterologist), Alexandra Health Service Champion Award (Service), National Healthcare Group Quality Pillar Award (Service) and National Excellent Service Award (Gold).

Dr Wee has published articles and co-authored book chapters on gastric pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, endoscopy and nutrition.
 
He has been appointed as a medical expert by the Academy of Medicine to assess the treatment rendered by other specialists on multiple occasions, and is a reviewer of the Clinical Claims Resolution Process, which handles disputes pertaining to insurance claims.  

In addition, Dr Wee is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, UK; a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, USA; a member of the faculty of medical experts and a fellow of the Academy of Medicine in gastroenterology.

 

Dr Wee was previously elected to the executive committees of the Gastroenterological Society of Singapore and the Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. He was also a senior clinical lecturer at NUS and the associate programme director of the National Healthcare Group (NHG) gastroenterology residency programme.
